SJRA/TPWD Lake Conroe Stump Cutting Project
In the recent stump cutting project, the total number of cut
stumps is just under 400. About 95% of the cut log sections
sank and will continue to provide some fish habitat. The
remaining 5% (about 20) were removed from the lake and are at EZ
Boat Storage. All cutting done by the contractors was approved
with the exception of approximately 12 stumps (3 tall and 9
short). The stumps were cut north of Cape Malibu.
TPWD
investigated reports of stumps being cut in Live Branch in the
south end of the lake. TPWD found a large area of timber that
had been cut by an unnamed person near Live Branch. This area
was not approved by TPWD or SJRA. SJRA is performing an
investigation to determine who is responsible. TPWD does not
have an accurate count of the trees damaged but it is a
significant number. If you have any information on unauthorized
cutting in the reservoir, please contact Blake Kellum at
936-588-1111.
